Garden Summer House Construction

Project Overview:

This project involved the design and construction of a bespoke timber-framed garden summer house, built from the ground up to provide the client with a flexible and comfortable additional space within their garden. The structure was designed to function as a multi-purpose room that could easily be used as a home office, games room or relaxation space.

The aim of the project was to create a well-insulated, durable and visually appealing garden building that would complement the existing property while offering a practical and usable space throughout the year.

Design & Planning:

The project began with discussions with the client to understand how the building would be used and how it should sit within the garden environment. This allowed the design to be tailored to the client’s needs, ensuring the size, layout and external appearance suited both the property and the surrounding outdoor space.

Consideration was given to the orientation of the building, natural light, access and the overall visual balance within the garden. The final design provided a clean and modern structure that blended naturally with the outdoor setting.

Construction:

The summer house was constructed using a timber frame structure, providing strength, durability and flexibility within the build. Timber framing allows for efficient construction while also enabling high levels of insulation to be installed within the wall, floor and roof structure.

The building was raised on block support pillars, lifting the timber structure clear of ground level. This approach helps protect the building from moisture, improves airflow beneath the structure and contributes to the long-term durability of the garden room.

Key construction elements included:

  • Ground preparation and installation of block support pillars

  • Raised timber floor structure to reduce moisture exposure

  • Timber frame wall construction

  • Structural roof framing

  • Insulated floor, wall and roof systems for year-round usability

  • External cladding to provide weather protection and a clean, modern finish

  • Installation of windows and doors to maximise natural light

Electrical Installation:

A full electrical installation was carried out to ensure the building could function as a practical and comfortable living space.

A dedicated electrical supply was run directly from the main consumer unit within the property, with the cable installed underground to provide a safe and discreet connection to the garden building.

This allowed the summer house to include:

  • Internal lighting

  • Multiple power outlets

  • Capacity for heating, office equipment or entertainment systems

Providing a fully powered space ensures the garden room can be comfortably used as a home office, games room or additional living area throughout the year.

Internal Finishing:

Once the structure was complete and weatherproof, the internal finishes were installed to create a comfortable and practical interior space.

Works included:

  • Internal wall timber cladding and finishing

  • Electrical installation to allow lighting and power within the building

  • Clean internal finishes to create a bright and usable room

The result is a flexible space that can be easily adapted depending on how the client wishes to use the building in the future.

The Outcome:

The completed summer house provides the client with a high-quality additional living space within their garden that can be used throughout the year. The insulated construction, durable materials and bespoke design ensure the building is both practical and visually appealing.

This project demonstrates how a well-designed garden building can create valuable additional space without the need for major alterations to the main property.
